We all get cravings for a treat once in a while. Luckily for those in the Big Apple, there are options that satisfy a sweet tooth, keep the calories low and the nutritional value high. Here are four healthy dessert spots in Greenwich Village:
There’s no guilt needed when enjoying a cool snack from Culture. Fresh yogurt is crafted on site using locally sourced ingredients. The company keeps it fun by sharing a daily rotation of flavors on their Facebook and Twitter. Recent flavor options include Mango Pineapple Tamarind, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Vanilla Almond. Visiting Brooklyn? Culture Yogurt Co. has a second shop on Fifth Avenue in Park Slope. As a tip, order the kid’s size—many regulars do and it keeps your treat light.
60 West 8th Street
Avoid processed junk food at this trendy vegan spot by NYU. Dessert options include cookies, cupcakes and ice cream. Ice cream? Yes, the homemade ice creams are 100% vegan, all natural, gluten-free and kosher certified. Choose from Salted Vanilla Caramel, Roasted Banana Bourbon, Kale Cookies + Cream or Coffee Chai Chip. Chef Chloe Coscarelli’s desserts are so popular that they’ve announced a shop exclusively serving desserts that will open next door later this year.
185 Bleecker Street
After finishing an enriching meal at this artisan bone broth restaurant, consider one of their fresh desserts. The Dark Chocolate Avo is a dairy free ice cream made with an organic coconut cream base, cocoa powder, avocado and maple syrup. Maybe you’re in the mood for the Vanilla Chai Pudding that includes organic coconut milk, chia seeds and vanilla extract topped with Springbone’s own grain-free granola. Springbone also offers smoothies and rich cold brew coffee from La Colombe.
90 West 3rd Street
This unique dessert spot is appropriately named with its wide variety of offerings. Try healthy dishes such as the Japanese Green Tea Soba or Green Tea with Red Bean Mochi Sago. There are fruit-based mango and strawberry puddings, but you can’t go wrong with the low-fat parfait. Visit The Dessert Kitchen’s website to view their complete menu.
